OSI SAF GOES-East SSI and DLI with GOES-16, first tuning


Following the switch to GOES-16 for OSI SAF GOES-East Radiative fluxes on 14 December 2017 (see #1493), a corrective factor of 0.94 is now applied to the calibrated visible channel (ABI channel 2), which is the main input of the Surface Solar Irradiance (SSI). This factor has been estimated mainly from the comparison between GOES-16 and Meteosat-10 SSI over the area common to both satellites. It is consistent with NOAA estimation "Channel 2 may be ~7% brighter than commonly accepted values". With this corrective factor, GOES-16 SSI is slightly increased and, consequently, GOES-16 daytime Downward Longwave Irradianced is slightly decreased.


The corrective factor is used since the hourly file dated 20180226T10:00:00Z and the daily file dated 20180227T12:00:00Z in the following products:
