Upcoming change of ScatSat-1 input data and effects on OSI SAF wind products

A few weeks ago we announced an upcoming calibration change in the ScatSat-1 input data that we use to produce the OSI SAF ScatSat-1 winds (OSI-112-a, OSI-112-b). ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) has planned to implement this change for tomorrow, 7 January. On the OSI SAF side a change was implemented which will fully compensate the effects for the winds calibration, once the change becomes effective. This was verified using test data which were kindly provided by ISRO.

Therefore, in the OSI SAF wind products the backscatter values will slightly change (by 0.35 dB for the HH and VV data), but the wind characteristics will not change.
