Upgrading of Medium Resolution Sea Ice Drift OSI-407

Dear OSI SAF Medium Resolution Sea Ice Drift User,

Issued Thu Sep 20 11:12:43 2018 UTC

As part of our commitment to provide you with better data, we are pleased to inform you that we will proceed to upgrade our product "Medium Resoluction Sea Ice Drift OSI-407" on Thursday the 11th October 2018.

This will carry the following changes:
- Use of satellite Metop-B instead of the current Metop-A. Despite the change of satellite, we will continue to use the instrument AVHRR computed from swath of Infra Red (IR) or VIS data.
- The product is currently computed twice daily (09:00, 21:00 UTC), it will be computed 4 times daily (03:00, 09:00, 15:00, 21:00). Providing the user with two more sets of products daily.
- A unique uncertainty algorithm has been developed and implemented for this product, providing individual uncertainties for each ice drift vector. The variable name is "Uncertainty".

Other than that, you should know that the product structure (file naming, variable names, dimensions, resolution) remains the same.

You can find documentation following these links:
- Product users manual.
- Validation report.
- Algorithm theoretical basis document.

You can find sample files on ftp://ftp.dmi.dk/sat/medres_drift/OSI-407-a/. You will find the data for the current product and for the same dates on ftp://ftp.dmi.dk/sat/medres_drift/OSI-407/.

Should you have any questions, do not hesitate in contacting us.

Best Regards,
